SSQ General Insurance Volleyball Challenge
Quebec City | October 28, 2009
The 18th edition of the SSQ General Insurance Volleyball Challenge was held October 16 and 17. The event, which kicked off the regular season of Université Laval’s Rouge et Or Volleyball Club, offered a great example of how determination leads to success. Just over 2,000 volleyball fans showed up to watch the Rouge et Or student teams play, shattering attendance records from previous editions of the SSQ General Insurance Challenge.
An exciting but difficult start
Friday evening, the Alberta Pandas mauled the Rouge et Or women’s team in four sets (14-25, 25-14, 21-25, and 17-25), and the Manitoba Bisons trampled the Rouge et Or men’s team in five sets (23-25, 25-17, 26-24, 23-25, and 18-16). In between sets, our president and CEO Gilles Mourette and Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume paid their respects to the two Rouge et Or captains.
Victory in the second round
Determination and teamwork can push people to go the extra mile, and that’s exactly what happened Saturday night. The SSQ General Insurance Challenge ended on a very different note than it began. The Rouge et Or men’s team herded the Bisons to defeat in three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-18), and the women’s team overcame a 2-1 disadvantage for an upset victory in the fourth and fifth sets.
A golden season
SSQ General Insurance is proud to be affiliated with the Université Laval Rouge et Or volleyball club and wishes the club’s athletes and coaches good luck in the coming season. For the season game schedule, see the Club Rouge et Or website.
