All in a Day's Work
My main duties are to meet with managers from our various business divisions, evaluate their needs, and create work documents for programmers.
In a typical day at my job, I meet with managers, suppliers, and external partners as well as with the various development teams. I also have to create analysis and architecture documents.
Teamwork is an integral part of my daily job, which I find interesting.
My Time at SSQauto
I joined SSQauto in 2001 as a programmer. As soon as I arrived, I took the lead in developing the company’s corporate intranet. My main goal was to show how this type of tool could benefit both staff and management while making it easier to share information between resources.
A few months after I started, I joined the internal telephone system development team. I was tasked with helping to store data relating to our clients and contacts.
In 2005, I was promoted to programmer analyst, and a few months later, I became an IT Analyst—a position I still hold.
I am currently working on maintaining and developing our main insurance system while continuing to occasionally devote my time to our Web applications, our phone system, and various parallel support applications for our main insurance system.
Since 2008, I have sat on the company retirement committee.
Before Joining SSQauto
My first postsecondary diploma was in Pure and Applied Sciences from Quebec City's Champlain Regional College. I then went on to complete a second diploma in computer sciences at Cégep de Sainte-Foy. I chose this career mostly because ever since I was a little boy I've been really interested in new technology and the need to create useful tools. When I finished my computer studies, I spent nearly three years developing general insurance brokerage applications, then joined SSQauto as a developer.
Why SSQauto?
There are three main reasons I work for this company:
- I have a stable and inspiring job in a field I'm familiar with.
- I have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technology in an ever-evolving environment.
- I can grow with a young, exciting, and skilled team and still keep my education options open since the company subsidizes university studies.
