What does home insurance cover?

A home insurance is divided into two parts: property and civil liability.

Your property
  • Your dwelling: your house, additions, permanently installed outdoor structures (e.g., fences), and landscape architecture
  • Detached private structures: structures not attached to your dwelling and that are located on the insured premises, (e.g., a garden shed, detached garage, etc.)
  • Your personal property: the contents of your home and any personal property that may be temporarily off the insured premises (e.g., your baggage during a trip)
  • Living expenses: supplemental expenses incurred following a loss, i.e., expenses a family would not ordinarily incur in the course of daily living
  • Rental value: covers loss of rental income following a covered risk if part of your house is rented
Civil liability Home insurance protects you against the financial consequences of civil liability for bodily injury or property damage involuntarily caused to others.

If you are sued for damages covered under this protection, SSQauto will cover the full cost of your defense.

Certain conditions and limitations apply.
