Here are a few pointers to help you sail through the claims process:

• In the case of theft, ask for a police report and record the virtual number.
• Until an SSQ General Insurance claims adjuster can assess the damages, leave everything untouched provided it doesn't pose a health risk.
• Keep all receipts and bills for expenses incurred following the event (i.e., room rentals, meals, etc.).
• Make a list of all damaged or stolen property, along with brief descriptions, serial numbers, dates of purchase, replacement costs, and any other information that can help us serve you better.
• If possible, take photographs of the damages to show your claims adjuster.

As a "just in case" measure, we recommend that you take an inventory of your belongings and keep it in a safe place off the premises. Should adversity strike, you'll find your checklist invaluable.
